What is... an operad?

Vortrag von Jeremy Nusa

Datum: 21.11.17  Zeit: 17.15 - 18.30  Raum:

An operad is an algebraic tool designed to formally discribe the composition of multivariable functions. It was originally used in homotopy theory for the study of the iterated loop space, and is now used in different mathematical fields such as algebraic geometry, homological algebra, category theory and mathematical physics. I'll present the original motivation for the construction of such objects and give the first definition and examples. I'll then explain what is the representation of an operad: an algebra, and how it helps to classify and solve some algebra-related problems.
