Rarefaction Waves for the Toda Equation via Nonlinear Steepest Descent

Abstract: I will give a brief introduction to the method of nonlinear steepest descent and then show how it can be applied to compute the long-time asymptotics of the Toda lattice with steplike initial data corresponding to a rarefaction wave. This talk is based on joint work with Iryna Egorova (ILT Kharkiv) and Johanna Michor (University of Vienna).
