On the Hasse-Weil conjecture for genus 2 curves

One conjectures that Zeta functions of algebraic varieties over number fields admit meromorphic continuation and satisfy a functional equation. The strategy is to express these Zeta functions using automorphic L-functions. In dimension 0, this follows from class field theory. For genus 1 curves over totally real fields, the Hasse-Weil conjecture is known by Wiles, Breuil-Conrad-Diamond-Taylor, Taylor. We will discuss the genus 2 case. This is joint work with G. Boxer, F.
