On the Betti map for an abelian scheme

The Betti map of a section of an abelian scheme is defined by means of real coordinates for an abelian logarithm, in terms of a lattice basis varying locally analytically. It is very useful in problems involving the torsion values of the section. It occurred already in work by Manin in the 60s, and recently was studied by several authors. We shall survey on this, showing some recent results and applications.
