Abstract:
Why mathematicians 'play' billiards? What do billiards and magic wands have to do with Maryam Mirzakhani, the first -and up to now the only- female mathematician who has been awarded the Fields medal (often known as the 'Nobel Prize' of mathematics)? In this talk, accessible to all Bachelor students, we will answer these questions and offer a glimpse of the beautiful mathematical work of Mirzakhani.
