Conference: Quantitative Network Science
Data-Driven Analysis of Complex Systems for a Sustainable Future
{{_Ltalk:R}} Dr. Benjamin Schaefer
Date: 26.11.20 Time: 10.00 - 10.45 Room:
We are facing great challenges in terms of a global pandemic, a climate crisis with an ongoing energy transition as well as an air pollution crisis. A common property of all these issues is that they are no simple problems that can be studied independently. Instead, each of these crises has many interacting layers, numerous stakeholders, thereby leading to high complexity. In my research, I wish to develop a data-driven framework to combine data analysis, machine learning and modelling approaches. In the past years, I have applied this framework to better understand and characterize the electrical power grid as well as sustainability problems in air pollution, wind statistics and more. My talk will discuss recent advances in collecting and analysing data, deriving laws how fluctuations in power grids scale with size, and discuss spatio-temporal propagation in power systems.
